Soft Tissue Therapy (STT) is an advanced method used by a qualified Soft Tissue Therapists and "hands-on" Physiotherapists and Osteopaths to help provide better movement and a reduction in muscular pain and tension.
Techniques include: Fascial Release, Trigger Point Therapy, Muscle Energy Techniques and Soft Tissue Release.
STT does differ to massage therapy. Treatment is only applied to an area for a clinical reason and in a specific way. Gentle or deeper pressure may be used to work the muscles and the nervous system. These techniques help to interrupt pain cycles, increases limited mobility in joints and assists in rehab of a sprain or strain.
Your first appointment is about listening to you and what you want from the session.
With this in mind, I will carry out an assessment (approx 15mins), to plan the best approach for helping you to recover and feel better.
You will be treated on the therapy couch. Thin, loose clothing is preferable and will only be adjusted with consent and if necessary for your treatment.
Follow-ups and after care advice will be offered to you, so that you can gain the most benefit from your treatment.
The amount of treatment can depend on the kind of symptoms that you are presenting with and how long you have been putting up with it with no other help.
We all get those areas of pain, tension and discomfort. I aim to provide more comfort from the very first session. You may only need an initial appointment and a follow-up. This does depend on the nature of the problem.
In general, a chronic (long standing) problem or an injury for example, can take a longer. This is because the body needs time to react to the treatment and gradually, move on from its "protective" state and adapt. You then reap the benefit of your care, in the long term.
